Admit with Explanation

Admit responsibility with an explanation:

  • By Mail:
    1. Sign the citation on the back
    2. Mail the citation and your explanation on a separate sheet of paper to the court before the appearance date. Please make sure your return address is correct.
    3. Once received a Pre-formal hearing date and time will be set. This date and time will be mailed to you.
    4. You or your attorney must appear in court on that day and time to give your explanation. If an appearance is made by representation the court may require the person to provide a further explanation or to appear in court.
  • In-person or by Representation:
    1. Contact the court within 10 days of receiving the ticket
    2. A Pre-Formal date and time will be given to you.

Important Points

  • You cannot reschedule court dates: Court dates can only be changed if you present proof of a medical emergency, travel tickets or proof that you will be out of state.
  • Points are assessed by the Secretary of State, not the Court. The 35th District Court cannot waive, raise, or lower points on a violation.
  • Fines and Costs are due at the time of assessment, and will therefore be due on your court date if you are found responsible.
  • If you fail to appear for your court date. You will be subject to additional fees and possible suspension of your driving privileges.
