The staff of the criminal
division receives written and faxed documentation from a number of
sources each and every day. The highest volume will come from the
police departments of the five communities we serve. In addition,
they will interact with the Michigan State Police, Wayne County
Sheriff, attorneys retained by defendants, prosecuting attorneys, as
well as other courts and police departments. A great deal of
organization is required to make certain that all of this information
and documentation flows properly and timely through the court system
and back to its users.
For example, if a
defendant is arrested in a community other than one of those we serve
on a warrant issued by our court the clerical staff must perform
several tasks. First, the staff makes a record of the arrest on our
computer and in the hard file, issues and verifies that a bond (an
amount of money that is forfeited if you fail to appear in court on
your assigned day) has been posted or makes arraignment for video
arraignment if still in custody.
